Two questions for today that you may be asking yourself : First, What can be better than natural beauty products made with love and purest botanical elements? Second, What is the difference between all these organic / green / natural beauty companies?

Well, there’re a few things I can tell you from my personal (hence very subjective) point of view. What can better? Nothing! Switch to green skincare probably was the best decision I’ve recently made. But obviously, there’re a few things that would affect my decision towards that or another product, like appealing packaging, transparent ingredients list and company’s ethics standards.

But also, and here’s going to be an answer for the second question, personalized approach to different skin types and concerns. It’s not hard to see that different green beauty companies use similar natural components in their products, but still – the concentration, origin of the ingredients, texture, scent, comfortable application – everything matters when it comes to my face.

Today I am going to give you a Botanical Facial Love lesson together with Herbivore Botanicals and their Ultimate Skin Collection for Oily / Combination Skin. I fell for Herbivore Botanicals with all my nature loving heart, and for me, this would be the company that matches all the points I’ve described above for thousand percent. Herbivore Botanicals is a 100 % natural skincare and beauty company, developed from house kitchen botanical experiments into all-over hyped company with a huge list of stockists around the world including Urban Outfitters. And for the reason : they produce absolutely safe, vegan, highly-effective skincare products from the purest natural ingredients (plant based food grade cold pressed oils, steam distilled therapeutic grade essential oils, GMO free soy wax, many certified organic ingredients) eco-friendly packed in glass containers and free from animal testing, mineral oils, parabens, alcohol, synthetic and animal ingredients, preservatives and harmful chemicals.

I personally find every product of this set extremely good for the current status of my skin that got kind of lost in the spontaneous seasons change (we’re already having summer here in Los Angeles). I’ll just tell you that this is probably the lightest of any natural oils based skincare line for oily and combination skin that I may tried so far. It feels like.. being covered with the thinnest summer blanket, that makes your skin comfortable but you don’t feel too warm, you know what I mean?

Let’s take a closer look on every product from the Herbivore Botanicals Ultimate Skin Collection :

Bamboo Charcoal Face and Body Soap – worldwide known for it’s exceptional purifying and detoxifying properties, Bamboo Charcoal made it’s way into a soap form in Herbivore Botanicals skincare collection that is especially advised to gently yet effectively cleanse and care for oily, combination and blemishes prone skin. Additional tea tree and bergamot essential oils infusion makes the soap smell like a botanical heaven and help the formula to balance and purify the skin. This soap found it’s honorable place in my bathroom (find a special container for it, you don’t want it to vanish fast!), and I actually love to use it when taking the shower – double treat for both face and body.

Herbivore Botanicals got 4 facial masks in their natural skincare line, and two of them are created especially for those in need of deep cleanse, spot treatment and just the right life skin balance. Activate (on the left) is a deep pore cleanse mask that is based on micronized Brazilian tourmaline gemstone and activated bamboo charcoal, Dead Sea clay and essential oils of Jasmine and Blue Yarrow. Together they create a highly efficient blend that clarifies and makes the impurities disappear shortly, plus detoxifies the skin and leaves it naturally glowing and smooth.

Blue Clay (on the right) is a spot treatment mask that aims to clear, vanish imperfections and even the skin tone with it’s extra rich on minerals ingredients list containing Cambrian Blue Clay, White kaolin clay and Rose geranium oil. Both of these masks come in powder, which is an absolute advantage as I love to control everything that is about to lay on my skin. Plus, in the set you’ll also find a Natural Vegan brush for soft and easy mask blending and application. It’s a pure pleasure to use these masks from opening a jar to rinsing them off – comfortable, full of natural care and minimum mess. Set also comes with a ceramic Mask Dish by The Object Enthusiast, that are limited edition but unlimitedly gorgeous.

I’m always down for a good natural skin toner, and Balance facial toning elixir feels just right for my combination skin as it does the balancing job for pH, reduces blemishes, calms my skin and tighten pores without actual tight feeling. Skin feels very refreshed, especially as I always let the toner to dry naturally on my skin and only then apply the moisturizer ( or facial oil). Very simple but very balance-targeting ingredients list : Purified Water, Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, Vegetable Glycerin, essential oil blend of Neroli and Hyssop Decumbens. Works perfect with …

Lapis facial oil, which is a gem of Herbivore Botanicals Ultimate Skincare collection, in my personal opinion! Perfect fresh scent, feather light texture and oh this wonderful emerald color of this facial oil immediately made it one of my current favorites, but also it’s capacity to nourish, calm, moisture and give a new life to my skin. Lapis Facial oil contains Blue Tansy and Blue Yarrow amazing blue oils, that not only give this beautiful deep color, but also contain an ultra effective component called Azulene that helps to reduce redness and clarify with it’s anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.  Worth every gorgeous drop!

    • I am in the deepest love with Lapis oil, it’s the only product I am using these days as a facial serum! My skin is kind of capricious lately, hormones or weather changes I don’t know what cause it, but it seems like only this light oil can make it go back to normal!:) Lapis and Solavedi Organics Raw Green Rescue from this post – http://tlvbirdie.com/2015/02/solavedi-organics-green-skincare.html

  • Ellalei

Dear Oly, first of all I want to thank you for so many inspiring posts and photos! I read your blog since months and always enjoy it.

I do love the Herbivore range as well but only have 2 products so far because here in Germany the brand is almost unknown and hard to find. The Bamboo Charcoal soap is my favorite morning cleansing method.
A question concerning the Lapis oil: you also describe it as more green than blue. I was irritated because images in the Web show it to be blue. So I don’t have to be concerned about that fact that my oil is completely NOT blue?

    • Hello Ellalei (what a gorgeous name!!!),

thank you so much for reading and all the kind words!

Charcoal soap is truly great, I’ve shared a piece of it with my friend who is trying to deal with some skin problems and she fell in love with it so deeply! It really helps her a lot and I am so happy I’ve introduced her to it!

Lapis is my truly deeply loved facial oil, I barely feel it on my face but what I do feel it’s the way how gentle, balancing and moisturizing it is! Well, maybe it’s just my way on interpreting this color, I would say it’s more green, or to be more concrete – light turquoise. It’s just the way it looks to me:) I’ve just featured it in one of my newest post once again, take a look, this is the color – http://tlvbirdie.com/2015/06/skincare-makeup-essentials-while-moving.html.

      • Ellalei

Many thanks, Oly! If I would have a chance to have a look on these products here in Germany I would not ask such things like the color of a face oil. 😉 But as I see in your beautiful pictures: my oil looks the same and I am no longer afraid something could be wrong with my bottle. The color and smell and more the feeling on the skin is really special. I love it more and more. For me it would probably fit even better in winter.

Besides: All the best for you in your new place! Of course I already knew your post 🙂 thanks for sharing again your favorites.

        • Dear Ellalei, I totally get you and no worries, feel free to ask as many questions as you want!:) Always happy to chat!

Thank you, I love our new little nest! Just bought a few frames to finalize the wall in the kitchen with botanical pages and bird embroidered illustrations:)!
