We got back from our Israel trip and one short sleep after almost 24 hours of combined flights, I found myself in the middle of the work / jet lag balancing act. Even though I consider myself good at planning (this is an ultimate set of skills one develop while running, building and navigating freelance + business + various passion projects), one field that I am clearly lacking those skills is the one that goes under a mysterious title ‘meal planning’. More often that not I am too busy (read : in the zone) to make a food run over to the nearest cafe for so much needed combo of nutrition & energies on the days when my fridge is blinding me with it’s crystal clear emptiness. I’d rather finish work and wait till the proper dinner time while disregarding the angry signs of hunger my stomach is trying to give me. This is obviously not the way to go, and the saying “artists should stay hungry” is better to be taken metaphorically.
While trying to justify my unhealthy list of priorities where nutrition doesn’t make it to the TOP 5, OLLY knocked on my door with their newly released Smoothies. OLLY is a known brand in our family, both me and my husband have been taking OLLY multivitamins for a while, so when I was asked to try the new OLLY Smoothie protein powder I knew this can’t go wrong.
Something for everyone
The variety of blends in the OLLY smoothie line aims to address different tastes and nutrition concerns : from Nourishing smoothie protein powder (I was sent Velvet Vanilla and Chocolate Peanut Butter) to Probiotic, Workout, Energy, Slim and Kids smoothies. All packed with the essential doze of plant protein, whole food vitamins (from organic fruits and veggies) and beneficial elements (like fiber, antioxidant sources etc). Now, the greatest thing about this – you only need to add water, and voilà, your delicious midday pick-me-up is served!
Spicing things up
While there is no shortage of smoothie recipes on the interwebs (check out OLLY Smoothie original recipes on their blog), I tend to keep things simple. Simple usually means navigating through my kitchen cabinet and grabbing every single thing on my way that can be worked into a yummy smoothie.
Here is a super quick recipe with undeniable antioxidant powers :
- 1 scoop OLLY Velvet Vanilla Nourishing Smoothie Powder
- 1/2 cup of almond milk
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp acai powder
- 1 tsp flax seeds
- pinch of cinnamon
Blend and sip!
