The X day has come. I went to the optometrist appointment to check my vision for the first time in no less than three (maybe four?) years. I knew things are not looking good (well, now that’s THE pun!) but I’ve been postponing this whole ‘I Need New Glasses’ subject for a while… Just because. Just because there always are so many things to take care of, before you get to the point where you finally need to take care of yourself. Definitely work in progress on this. So after I received an updated prescription I went straight to the Warby Parker location in DTLA to try on a very specific frame that was waiting there for me….
You may know that Warby Parker offers home try-on program for up to 5 frames of your choice. Which is great, and I assume works just fine for the sunglasses! But for this sensitive matter like choosing a new pair of eyeglasses I prefer to go the shop. Mostly because my face is quite narrow and not every frame that I like fits me well. Not even every 10th. I had my eyes on the Maynard frame in “Cortado” (a gorgeous shade of terra-cotta) since this Terracotta instead of Sequins post and since I first tried them at the Alchemy Works location while our Arts District stroll a couple months back. It was definitely a love from the first sight.
Speaking of the sight. Two weeks of anticipation later, Warby Parker parcel landed on my doorstep and things forever changed. For the first week I was amazed on how things got clearer, brighter and how I can now almost read my emails from another corner of the room. That’s what happens when you don’t do vision checkups on time, girl!
For a full disclaimer : I am wearing contact lenses since 14 and glasses since 11. I use my eyes on 100% : photoshoots, editing, constant staring on pixels and screens. You would never see me outside (except maybe late night In-N-Out runs) wearing glasses, I am really comfortable with contact lenses and not that comfortable with glasses. So obviously, a good reason behind the new glasses – I need to give my eyes more rest. Period.
Now, when it comes to frames – I tend to be really picky. I have many no-no’s, as for example combination between plastic and metal. And I was especially picky this time, as my ultimate goal is to spend more time in these glasses, including outside. Warby Parker has a great selection of trendy and more classic frames. I guess I got something in between. I really feel complete with the Maynard frame, and I absolutely love the way it complements my features – skin tone, brows shape, hair color. I will probably post a picture on my Instagram soon, sooo… stay tuned!
With the new glasses came some new thoughts on everyday style. Like a little summer wardrobe staples update (#ontheneutalside indeed) and further experiments with peach and nude tones in my daily makeup routine.
What goes with my new Warby Parker eyeglasses? Short answer : everything! Long:
Definitely into light tones this summer : Mango cotton T-shirt with pocket detail + relaxed fit beige trousers, both currently #onsale! For some color balance – mustard glove shoes with a block heel that I’ve been eyeing this whole season (I got one pair in black!) are also on sale right now and it looks like all sizes are currently available. I was excited to see a curated edition of Maslo Jewelry (my personal FAVORITE!) that arrived to Need Supply, and I love this nude bracelet that would go with absolutely everything I own and I ever will. Also, &OtherStories Twinkle Pearl Radiance Cream and Aesop Rind Concentrate Body Balm got me really curious to try!
A couple more items on my wishlist :
Like this absolutely gorgeous terra-cotta color light jacket from H&M (that is right now almost 50% OFF!), and this great Need Supply budget find – white off-shoulder blouse with lovely detailing. Two lip products I want to have on my beauty shelf : Aesop Reship Seed Lip Cream and the recent Tarte release – Lip Lingerie Matte Lip Tint in “Exposed” (I actually love all of the nude colors in their latest collection!). Now, these Jeffrey Campbell taupe suede shoes would be just the perfection addition to my wardrobe (well, my Birthday is just around the corner!) and the Dark Rum candle from Malin+Goetz sounds like exactly my type of scent!
