Seattle Travel Guide

A few weeks ago we spent some time traveling and one of our destinations was Seattle. I finally got my thoughts together and would like to share my photo diary from that trip with you along with some tips on what to do, what to wear, where to drink coffee and where to stay while in Seattle. It was our first time in Seattle, and I really liked the city vibe – very urban, yet very calm. Lots of water, seafood and wild nature surrounding the city made lots of great memories for me, as I love spending time with the ocean as much as discovering the downtown architecture and secret little streets.  So here’s my short Seattle Travel Guide.

1. What to wear. To blend in, flannel shirts would to the trick, but to make friends with local winds you’d want to go for real layers. It was a happy time for my coat that saw the light for the first time in years since I wore it during my Berlin trip two years ago. Obviously I was very excited about this big moment, layers are my favorite part of styling game. I’ve packed my suitcase with sweaters, leather boots and warm essentials of always winning neutral colors. One hat and one vintage cross-body bag did the whole style story easy and chic during the travel.

2. Where to stay. We chose to stay at recently re-opened Palladian Hotel (Kimpton Hotel group) and it was the decision that definitely influenced all 3 days of our Seattle stay in the best possible way. First of all, located in the heart of Downtown Seattle, Palladian Hotel is literally 2 mins walk distance from Pike Place Market, surrounded by lots of hip bars and coffee shops, it made it super easy for us to discover the city by foot and save on car rental. Also, it felt like a quiet, cozy place to come back and chill on the large luxurious bed during the day. Something you can afford during the vacation time, right?!:) The staff was all extremely polite and helped us out with some local food and drinks tips. Time in the hotel definitely felt like a dreamy getaway for us, which totally is a bonus to an urban style travel such as ours. Additional treats like local Kukuruza gourmet popcorn, C.O.Bigelow Apothecaries skincare goodies and other boutique hotel attributes such as a very nice selection of drinks in the mini-bar shows the hospitality and great taste of Palladian Hotel. Vintage-inspired interior, highest modern standards, perfect service – everything points on this hotel’s trendsetting status.

Here are some of the green beauty essentials that were traveling with me (links are pointing to detailed reviews I wrote before) : Lush Cosmetics Herbalism cleanser, Herbivore Botanicals Balance toner and Lapis facial oil, Fig and Yarrow foot butter (I literally don’t step outside without it), Kari Gran essential serum that I use mostly for blending their powder concealer and Burt’s Bees herbal blemish stick to avoid any skin surprises during the trip.

3. What to see and where to go. Pike Place Market is a must to observe local produce, floral and food stands. If you like planning ahead – ask traveller’s best friend Foursquare where to take a rest with a glass of craft beer, or just run with your intuition. Take a ride on the Ferris Wheel and feel like a little bird above the bay, then take a walk through the downtown all the way to Space Needle. Touristy sightseeing, but you can’t miss that 360 degrees view including breathtaking Mount Rainier! Also try Serious Pie for pizza + cider afternoon.

4. Where to drink coffee. Well, you’ll see Starbucks on every corner, and even the First Starbucks opened back in 1971 at Pike Place Market. But discovering decent local coffee shops is an art, and here’s the tip – Stumptown Coffee on Pine street. Grab it one the way back from exploring Capitol Hill – the whole area is so hip and has sort of Silver Lake vibe to it.

5. Take a moment with nature. There’s something about salty Seattle air, bays, shuttle ferries and surrounding mountains that create a very nice, simple living atmosphere to the city. I loved it, especially while visiting West Seattle and hoping to see some sea lions on the shore.
